108 Beads series
WHAT IS MALA BEADS?
A mala is a string of beads traditionally used to count mantras—similar to powerful affirmations—during meditation. It is comprised of 108 counting beads and one guru bead(always the bigger one). Some mala beads may also have additional marker beads or tassels to remind you of your progress or to add a sense of ritual.
Mala beads(prayer beads) can also be worn as a necklace or bracelet, serving both as a companion for meditation practice and as a tool for spiritual growth or personal reflection.
THE HISTORY OF MALA BEADS
Mala beads originate from ancient Buddhist tradition. Centuries ago, the Buddha advised King Haruri to make a string of 108 beads from Mokugenji tree seeds. By reciting the mantra ‘Namu Buddha – Namu Dharma – Namu Sangha’ and counting each bead, practitioners could focus their minds and overcome earthly desires.
WHY IT IS 108 BEADS?
- Buddhism: The 108 beads symbolize the 108 earthly desires or defilements that practitioners aim to overcome. Using the mala helps focus the mind during meditation and supports the journey toward enlightenment.
- Hinduism: The number 108 is linked to 108 Upanishads and 108 energy channels (nadis) that converge at the heart chakra, representing spiritual alignment and balance.
- Yoga: In yoga philosophy, 108 reflects the wholeness of the universe. The digits can be interpreted symbolically: 1 represents unity, 0 represents completeness or emptiness, and 8 represents infinity or the infinite nature of existence.
4 MAIN TYPES OF MALA BEADS

Magnetizing Beads (Red): Typically red stones like garnet or agate, they emphasize compassion, kindness, and the power to attract positive connections.
Subjugating Beads (Dark / Blue): Usually black, dark blue, or turquoise, they symbolize the destruction of obstacles, harmful actions, and negative forces.
